Elements from Home Book
The Wizard of Oz got it right: There’s no place like home. I love "mi casita" and care for it deeply, and I know the feeling is mutual. Home is a deeply personal space determined not by the physical place but by people, memories, artifacts, and details. My home is a refuge from the concrete jungle, overflowing with plant life and furnished almost entirely with found and thrifted pieces, and accented with hand-me-downs and hand-made art. Home is constructed through a sense of aesthetics and a set of storied objects which can carry meaning through generations. If identity is ever too complicated to phrase verbally, objects can do a lot of the heavy lifting. This book highlights elements that best represent the story of my home.
This process was inspired by the many scrapbooks that my mom made when I was growing up. In fact, helping her with these was my first introduction to design. Because of this history and its sentimental value, this was the most appropriate medium for this project.
